First Hack-A-Thon: Complete!

Team Hack-A-Thon, gathered on Saturday, April 6th at the White River Conference Room to piece together the new Doula Foundation website. The room was buzzing with last minute set up and early arrivers in 1920’s dress as we overtook two tables and began to hack away.

Shortly before 7:30, the new site launched live in front of the ARTcetera crowd. You can see the new site in all its glory here. Also noteworthy is the responsive design: 

If you ever visited the previous website, you’ll notice a big difference in the look and feel of the site. We’re thrilled with how it looks and works, and The Doula Foundation seems pretty ecstatic as well.

The Hack-A-Thon is a partnership between Departika and 40Digits as a way to combine talents and give back to deserving organizations by building them a website in just one day.

Last year we spent a good portion of our summer conjuring up the Christmas spirit while designing customizable holiday cards (and other significant-event cards & invitations) for a new site, Paper Muse Press. Do you know what your audience wants?

We ran across this chart that stood out in an Exact Target study. It compares what marketers believe consumers want to what consumers say they want (in relation to customer loyalty).  It’s a reminder of the importance to look beyond what you assume in your digital marketing efforts and take the time to understand what your audience really wants.

You may think your audience wants the next fancy app but in reality the message seems clear: focus on your website/mobile site, Facebook, email marketing, and customer service. Then augment the basics with secondary channels.

The nugget of insight to remember here… informed decisions based on understanding your audience can result in money well spent, increased engagement and better results in your digital marketing efforts.
